Three Days of Love on the Island of Folegandros Wedding, Cyclades, Greece!

For Magdalena and Nikolas, celebrating in Folegandros was also an opportunity to embrace some of the traditions that make a Greek island wedding so unique. The couple chose to incorporate authentic Greek elements into their wedding day, creating an experience that connected their celebration with the traditions, sounds and spirit of Folegandros.

One of the most memorable moments was the journey to the iconic Church of Panagia, perched high above Chora and overlooking the Aegean Sea.

In true island style, donkeys became part of the wedding procession, adding a playful and wonderfully traditional Folegandros touch to the occasion. The couple, together with their families and friends, made their way along the winding path towards Panagia, accompanied by local musicians. The sounds of the violin and laouto, two instruments deeply connected with traditional Greek island music, filled the air as the wedding party climbed towards the chapel.

It was one of those moments that could only happen in Greece. Music, laughter, family and friends came together against the extraordinary landscape of Folegandros, turning the walk to Panagia into a celebration of its own. Rather than simply arriving at the ceremony, Magdalena and Nikolas created a procession that allowed their guests to experience a piece of authentic Cycladic culture. With every step towards the chapel, the views became more spectacular. Below them lay the whitewashed houses of Chora and, beyond, the endless blue of the Aegean.

The combination of Greek island music, violin, laouto and the traditional procession to Panagia created one of the most emotional and unforgettable moments of the three-day wedding celebration. It was joyful, authentic and unmistakably Folegandros.

From Panagia to the Heart of Chora

After the emotions and traditions of the ceremony, it was time to celebrate. The festivities continued at Chic Restaurant, located in the heart of Folegandros, where the atmosphere shifted from romantic ceremony to a lively Greek island celebration. The setting brought everyone together in the centre of Chora, surrounded by the characteristic whitewashed architecture and relaxed energy of the island. Guests gathered around the tables to enjoy local Greek and Mediterranean cuisine, celebrating the flavours of the Cyclades through a menu inspired by the simplicity and generosity of Greek food. Local ingredients, Mediterranean flavours and Greek wines became part of the experience, giving guests another opportunity to discover Folegandros through its food and hospitality.

The wedding décor embraced effortless Cycladic elegance, with long tables draped in flowing white linens and adorned with beautiful floral centerpieces, creating a refined yet relaxed atmosphere that perfectly complemented the timeless beauty of Folegandros.

For us, this is an essential part of creating a destination wedding in Greece. The celebration should not simply take place on the island—it should allow guests to taste, hear and experience the destination. Magdalena and Nikolas wanted exactly that. They brought together the beauty of a sophisticated destination wedding with elements of authentic Greek island life: traditional music, local food, Greek wine, family, friends and a celebration in the heart of Chora.

A Huge Greek Party Under the Folegandros Sky

And then came the party. As dinner gave way to dancing, the reception at Chic Restaurant transformed into a joyful celebration filled with music and energy. The DJ took over for the evening, bringing everyone onto the dance floor and setting the mood for a party that continued into the night. After the traditional violin and laouto that had accompanied the wedding procession earlier in the day, the transition to the DJ created the perfect combination of old and new, Greek tradition meeting a modern destination wedding celebration.

Friends and family danced, laughed and celebrated together in the centre of Folegandros, surrounded by the atmosphere of Chora. It was a huge party, but one that still felt intimate and personal. And that contrast is part of what makes a wedding in Folegandros so special. Within the same day, you can walk towards a centuries-old chapel accompanied by traditional Greek musicians, celebrate with local food and wine, and then dance late into the night with everyone you love.

For Magdalena and Nikolas, it was exactly the combination they wanted: Greek tradition, Cycladic beauty and a great party shared with their favourite people.

From the donkeys and musicians leading the way towards Panagia to the violin and laouto echoing across the hillside, from Greek Mediterranean flavours and local wine to the energy of the dance floor at Chic Restaurant, every part of the celebration told a little more of their story.

And every part felt unmistakably Folegandros.
