This destination wedding in Folegandros was planned and coordinated by Folegandros Weddings by Vicky Balman, a local wedding planning company based on the island of Folegandros in the Cyclades, Greece. Travelling from London, the couple chose Folegandros for its authentic Cycladic atmosphere and celebrated their wedding in the heart of Chora. From planning the ceremony and reception to coordinating local suppliers, styling and guest logistics, our team created a celebration designed around both the couple and the character of the island.

Three Days of Love, Celebration & Greek Island Magic in Folegandros, Cyclades, Greece

For Gogo and Giorgos, Folegandros was the place to come home to Greece and celebrate their love. Greek by origin and living in London, UK, the couple dreamed of bringing their families and friends together for much more than a wedding day.  They wanted their guests to experience the island, its sea, its traditions, its food and, above all, that unmistakable feeling of a Greek summer.Their celebration became a three-day destination wedding in Folegandros, filled with beautiful surprises, traditional Greek music, unforgettable parties and emotional moments shared with the people they love most. And what better way to welcome everyone to Folegandros than from the sea?

Day One – Welcome to Folegandros, from the Aegean Sea

The wedding celebrations began with a boat tour organized by Diaplous Travel Agency. Family and friends came together for a day on the Aegean, with music playing, drinks flowing and plenty of time for swimming, laughing and discovering some of the beautiful beaches and crystal-clear waters surrounding Folegandros. It was relaxed, spontaneous and completely Greek: sunshine, sea, music and your favorite people around you that ended up in a huge party onboard.

But Gogo and Giorgos had another surprise waiting for their guests that evening. As the sun went down, everyone gathered around the beautiful pool at Provalma, Folegandros, for a welcome celebration overlooking the island.  What began as drinks by the pool soon became a party and, naturally, a party by the pool in Greece can only end one way. In the pool!It was the perfect beginning to three unforgettable days.

Day Two – The Wedding Day in Chora, Folegandros

The following morning brought all the anticipation and emotion of the wedding day. At Provalma Hotel in Folegandros, Gogo and Giorgos prepared separately, surrounded by their closest family and friends. Against the incredible views of Chora and the Aegean, the quiet moments of preparation, excitement and emotion created some of the most beautiful memories of the celebration.  Everything was ready. Giorgos arrived with his family and friends, and soon the sound of traditional instruments filled Chora.

Local musicians joined the wedding party to welcome the bride in true Folegandros style. Together, the couple’s families and friends began walking through the picturesque squares and whitewashed alleys of Chora, Folegandros, accompanied by traditional island music. Of course, there was time for one very Greek stop along the way a raki shot!

Then it was time to continue towards the church and the moment everyone had been waiting for. This is one of the things we love most about planning weddings in Folegandros. Here, getting to the church can become part of the celebration itself. The music, the narrow Cycladic streets, the locals watching, family and friends walking together and the incredible island landscape turn a wedding procession into an experience guests will remember forever.

After the ceremony, Gogo and Giorgos stepped into their first moments as husband and wife surrounded by music, laughter and the people who had traveled to Folegandros to celebrate with them.  Traditional Greek island music began to play, and the newlyweds danced.Drinks were served as friends and family joined the celebration, all with one of the most spectacular backdrops the Cyclades can offer: a breathtaking Folegandros sunset over the Aegean Sea. It was romantic, emotional and wonderfully authentic. It was Folegandros.

A Wedding Reception in the Heart of Chora

The celebrations then moved into the famous squares of Chora, Folegandros, one of the most atmospheric settings for a destination wedding in the Greek islands. The wedding reception was hosted at Kritikos Restaurant, bringing everyone together in the heart of village life. But Gogo and Giorgos were not going to make an ordinary entrance. The newlyweds surprised their guests by arriving on a beautifully decorated bicycle complete with a “Just Married” sign – a playful entrance that immediately set the mood for the night ahead. Dinner, laughter and celebration filled the square before it was time for the party to begin. And once DJ Menelaos Koutsakos took over, the energy changed completely. The dance floor filled, the music went up and once again Menelaos created an incredible wedding party in Folegandros. Friends, family and the newlyweds danced together late into the night beneath the Cycladic sky. Sweet treats from Parasagas, a huge strawberries tart including desserts and ice cream, added another delicious surprise to the evening. It was a celebration that brought together everything the couple wanted: Greek tradition, contemporary style, wonderful food, music, family, friendship and a huge party in the heart of Folegandros.

Every visual detail of the celebration was carefully considered to complement the natural beauty and authentic character of the island.The Folegandros Weddings team coordinated the wedding design and styling, including decoration, linens, ceramics, lighting equipment, flowers and the complete table setup, creating a celebration that felt elegant and considered while remaining completely at home in its Cycladic surroundings. For us, destination wedding planning is never simply about creating something beautiful. It is about creating something that belongs to the destination. Folegandros already gives us extraordinary architecture, traditional squares, whitewashed houses, dramatic cliffs, the Aegean Sea and some of the most beautiful sunsets in Greece. Our role is to bring all those elements together with the personality and story of each couple.
